DAVID MARTI & MONTSE RIBÉ

In 1991 David founded a small and familiar workshop called Efectos Especiales DDT. A few years (and many jobs) later he was to gain Montse Ribé as his business partner and over the course of their careers they have had the honour of working with some of the world’s top directors like Guillermo del Toro on ’The Devil’s Backbone’, ‘Hellboy’, ‘Hellboy II: The Golden Army’ and ‘Crimson Peak'. Their creations for ‘Pan’s Labyrinth’ earned them the Oscar for best achievement in makeup in 2007, and they have also worked with the likes of Pedro Almodovar on ’Talk to Her’ and ’The Skin I Live in’, and J.A. Bayona in 'The Impossible’ and ‘A Monster Calls’.

David was born in Barcelona in 1971. At a very early age he began to make stop motion movies with his father’s 8mm camera. After trying many kinds of special effects, he decided to further pursue the makeup field. He worked as a self-taught makeup artist for several years until he met with the master Dick Smith, who opened a new world of techniques to him.

Montse was born in Barcelona in 1972. From a very early age fantasy and the world of fairy tales have played an important part in her life. Ribé began drawing and sculpting in an attempt to realize some of the creatures and characters from her imagination; animation also served as an outlet for her creativity. Following this, Montse discovered the world of makeup and soon displayed great aptitude for it, making the transition between disciplines with great success.
